About Minnesota Whist

Minnesota Whist is a regional variation popular in Minnesota and South Dakota. This partnership game stands out from other whist variants by eliminating the trump suit.

The game objective changes based on the bid type:
- High bids: Aim to win 7+ of 13 tricks
- Low bids: Aim to win 6 or fewer tricks

This straightforward partnership trick-taking game is perfect for developing card skills. Enhance your strategic thinking and teamwork with this enjoyable, fast-paced experience.

Gameplay Features

Collaborate with your AI partner to outmaneuver opponents in this engaging card game. Whist serves as an excellent introduction to trick-taking games. As your skills improve, increase the difficulty for greater challenges!

Victory requires teamwork - be the first partnership to reach your target score (either 7 or 13). Track both session and lifetime statistics to monitor your progress.

Quick Rules Overview

After dealing 13 cards to each player:
1. Players bid high (black card) or low (red card)
2. Bids are revealed left of dealer
3. First black card determines a high bid round (play to win tricks)
4. All red cards mean low bid round (play to avoid tricks)

High bid: Player right of bidder leads first trick
Low bid: Player left of dealer leads first trick

Players must follow suit when possible. Highest card of led suit wins each trick, and the winner leads next trick.

Scoring System

High bid:
- 1 point per trick over 6 for bidding team
- If bid fails: 1-2 points per trick over 6 for opponents (set bonus dependent)
