Tiled Map Editor for 2D Games
TMEditor is a powerful, free tool designed to simplify the creation of map layouts for 2D games. Its versatility extends beyond simple map design, allowing users to specify abstract elements such as collision areas, enemy spawn positions, and power-up locations. All this data is saved in the widely-used and standardized .tmx format, ensuring compatibility and ease of integration into various game development environments.
How Does TMEditor Work?
The process of using TMEditor to design maps involves a straightforward series of steps:
Choose your map size and base tile size. This sets the foundation for your map's dimensions and the granularity of your tiles.
Add tilesets from image(s). Import your graphics to create the tiles that will form your map.
Place the tilesets on the map. Arrange your tiles to create the desired layout.
Add any additional objects to represent something abstract. This can include elements like collision zones or special triggers.
Save the map as a .tmx file. This format ensures that your map data is saved in a standardized way.
Import the .tmx file and interpret it for your game. Use the saved map in your game engine to bring your design to life.
