Civ 7 Slammed: $100 Beta Test Backlash

Sid Meier's Civilization VII launched to a storm of criticism, with many players feeling they'd purchased a beta test, not a finished game. The premium edition's $100 price tag only amplified this frustration, fueling widespread discontent over numerous issues.

The complaints aren't limited to technical glitches; gameplay mechanics, design choices, and unfinished features are all under fire. The developers' admission that certain elements were works in progress further exacerbated the situation.

A prime example of this unfinished state is the advertised "unique" British unit, which turned out to be a generic model identical to standard units. While developers promised a redesign via update, this did little to soothe angry players.

This incident highlighted broader concerns about the game's premature release. Potential buyers are delaying purchases, viewing the negative reception as confirmation of their wait-and-see approach.

Steam reviews currently reflect a "mixed" response, showcasing the division between those who appreciate the core concept and those disappointed by the execution. While patches are addressing bugs and performance, the update pace hasn't quelled player anger.

Civilization VII's premium price further fuels frustration. Players feel $100 is excessive for a game rife with problems, resembling early access more than a polished release. This has sparked debate about the industry's tendency to prioritize speed over quality.

The development team has pledged to address the most critical issues through future patches, aiming to improve stability, refine gameplay, and correct visual inconsistencies like the infamous British unit. However, skepticism remains, with many players uncertain if these efforts will restore their confidence.
