REPO Duck Bucket Added in First Update to Fend Off That Dreaded Duck

The developers behind REPO have revealed their roadmap for the game’s first major update, which includes a clever new tool known as the “duck bucket” designed to help players avoid one of the game’s most unexpected threats—the deadly duck. Read on to discover what’s coming next and hear what Lethal Company’s creator has to say about the game.

Duck Bucket: A New Tool To Handle the Menacing Duck

In REPO, players can expect an all-new addition in the form of a "duck bucket," introduced to deal with the small but dangerous yellow duck that haunts the game. Semiwork Studios recently shared a YouTube video on March 15 outlining upcoming updates and improvements.

For those unfamiliar, REPO is an online co-op horror game supporting up to six players. The gameplay revolves around carefully extracting and retrieving items in a terrifying environment. One of the game’s more unusual elements is The Apex Predator—a seemingly innocent duck that transforms into a monstrous threat when damaged or picked up, attacking players for ten seconds before reverting to its harmless state.

To counter this quirky yet deadly creature, the development team will introduce the duck bucket, allowing players to trap the duck and prevent it from following them. This feature not only helps manage the duck’s behavior but also avoids accidental activation of its monster mode by teammates. Alongside the duck bucket, players can look forward to new facial expressions and various quality-of-life enhancements.

New Map – “The Museum” and Public Lobbies

Semiwork Studios is also preparing a brand-new map called “The Museum,” designed to test players' parkour abilities. In addition, extraction points will now feature visible boundaries to indicate whether collected loot falls within the acceptable range for successful extraction.

The studio is also working toward implementing public lobbies, based on player feedback. They explained, “Since the majority of players are comfortable with matchmaking options that include both public and private hosting, along with a kick button, that’s the direction we’re exploring. While adding a kick button may seem straightforward, it involves complex server-side coding, which is still relatively new territory for us.”

Due to these technical challenges, this feature may arrive later than other planned updates.

Lethal Company Creator Weighs In on REPO

Since its release in February, REPO has drawn comparisons to Lethal Company, another popular co-op horror title. On March 15, Zeekerss, the creator of Lethal Company, shared his thoughts on REPO via Twitter (X), offering constructive feedback for future updates.

He wrote, “REPO is fun. At first I thought I didn't like it since I felt so slow (and voice chat range is too small!) But everyone in the group working together to move a grand piano through a cramped old mansion without scraping it—that is like the most funny objective for a horror game.” In follow-up comments, he added, “I'll probably post more thoughts on Patreon, but I think #1. Voice chat range needs increased, and the muffling is too much. #2. The levels with vast open space don't suit the game's design very well (similarly to Phasmophobia); it shines most in the cramped mansion layout.”

Zeekerss also responded to concerns about enemies sneaking up silently, making them hard to detect. He noted, “Yeah, there also needs to be an in-game way to learn about how enemies work, but I'm sure they're planning that.”

Currently available exclusively on PC, R.E.P.O. has become a viral sensation in the gaming community. As of writing, it ranks as the second best-selling game on Steam, just behind Counter-Strike 2. According to SteamDB, the game has attracted over 230,645 concurrent players—getting close to Lethal Company’s peak of 240,817.
