Introduced in Dynasty Warriors 4, duels make their comeback in Dynasty Warriors: Origins, though not immediately. This engaging one-on-one combat becomes available in Chapter 2, but only against specific high-ranking enemy officers. A prompt to initiate a duel (pressing R1 and L1 simultaneously) appears briefly when these officers are encountered.

The duel takes place within a designated arena surrounded by soldiers. Unlike standard battles, a progress bar at the top of the screen tracks the duel's momentum for both participants. Successful hits fill your portion of the bar, while your opponent's hits fill theirs. The objective is to completely fill your bar by inflicting sufficient damage on your opponent.

Your starting position in the duel isn't determined by health; instead, it reflects your current morale. A winning streak grants a head start, while lagging behind results in a disadvantage. Crucially, certain unavoidable duels exist; losing these automatically results in mission failure, while victory guarantees battle victory.
