With Dune: Awakening on the brink of release, Funcom is reassuring fans of their preparedness for a potentially overwhelming launch in June. In a detailed Steam post dated May 7, the developer addressed concerns following the first closed beta, shedding light on the game’s server capabilities and large-scale multiplayer dynamics.

Upon starting the game, players will select a server as their home base. These servers are part of larger Worlds, each containing at least 20 servers, allowing players to interact and engage with others across different servers within the same World.

Addressing fan concerns about server capacity and wait times, Funcom anticipates a significant load at launch, with some servers potentially reaching full capacity. They assure that there will be "thousands of servers grouped into hundreds of Worlds available from the start."

Funcom emphasized, "While a Hagga Basin server can support 40 concurrent players, the natural fluctuation of player activity throughout the day means it can accommodate several hundred choosing it as their home." They further explained that rigorous testing during the closed beta has prepared them for managing server popularity, with systems in place to limit character creation on servers that are nearing capacity.

Dune: Awakening focuses on large-scale multiplayer interactions but remains enjoyable for solo adventurers. At launch, the game will not offer single-player or private servers, though these features are slated for future updates.

What To Expect During The Large-Scale Beta Weekend

Ahead of the official launch, Dune: Awakening is set to host a large-scale beta weekend, providing fans with a taste of what's to come. On May 8, Funcom shared details on their official website about what players can expect during this event.

To participate in the beta weekend, fans can wishlist and request access on the game’s Steam page, sign up on the official website, or obtain an access code at the Global LAN party on May 10.
