Oblivion Remastered Faces Camera and Crash Issues, Experts Urge Swift Patch

Tech analysts report significant performance issues in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered across all consoles, with fans eagerly awaiting a critical update.
Oblivion Remastered has seen a blockbuster launch, boasting over 4 million players and a ‘very positive’ Steam user rating. Yet, persistent performance challenges continue to surface.
Digital Foundry conducted an in-depth review of Oblivion Remastered on all console platforms, uncovering widespread issues. DF’s Thomas Morgan commented on Virtuos’ Unreal Engine 5 overhaul:
No console escapes these problems: PS5, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series systems all face traversal stutters in the open world. Additionally, frame rates frequently dip below 60fps, with performance worsening over extended play—likely due to a memory leak. Worst of all, repeated save loading triggers crashes to the system menu on both PlayStation and Xbox.
How do these issues play out? Digital Foundry notes that prolonged sessions degrade performance compared to a fresh start. Cycling through saves introduces glitches, Morgan explained. Curiously, extended play also misplaces the camera too high during horseback riding, though restarting the game resolves this.
A potential memory leak causing performance to deteriorate over time is deeply concerning. Frequent crashes when loading saves compound the issue.
Fans hope Bethesda tackles these flaws quickly, as prolonged play in this vast fantasy RPG increases the likelihood of encountering these disruptions.
“This is a critical situation for any remaster, and Virtuos must prioritize fixing the crashes,” Morgan emphasized.
Digital Foundry’s analysis questions whether Oblivion Remastered was rushed to release. A hotfix for Xbox Series X remains unavailable for PS5 and PS5 Pro, highlighting version disparities.
The PC version fares no better, with Digital Foundry labeling its performance “alarming.” Their full report offers deeper insights.

Despite its flaws, Oblivion Remastered is a commercial triumph, ranking as the third best-selling game in the U.S. for 2025 after just one week, launched on April 22. It trails only Monster Hunter: Wilds and Assassin’s Creed: Shadows.
Developed by Virtuos using Unreal Engine 5, Oblivion Remastered boasts numerous enhancements. It delivers 4K resolution at 60fps, alongside revamped leveling, character creation, combat animations, and menus. New dialogue, improved third-person perspective, and advanced lip-sync technology have also impressed fans, many of whom argue it feels more like a remake. Bethesda, however, has clarified its choice to call it a remaster.
With the game now widely played, players advise tackling Kvatch early to avoid level-scaling difficulties. Reports also highlight a player who ventured beyond Cyrodiil to explore Valenwood, Skyrim, and Hammerfell, the rumored setting for The Elder Scrolls VI.
