ASTRA: Knights of Veda Bids Farewell to English Dubbing

Effective January 23, 2025, following scheduled maintenance, ASTRA: Knights of Veda will discontinue English voice-over support. This decision, announced by developer FLINT on January 20th, aims to bolster game stability and enhance localization quality.

The update impacting language support will remove German, Spanish, Portuguese, Indonesian, and Italian. However, Korean, English text, Japanese, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, French, Thai, and Russian will remain. Crucially, while English text will persist, in-game voice acting will switch to Japanese for regions outside Korea. FLINT assures players this change won't affect in-game chat functionality in previously supported languages.

This move follows a trend among gacha games. Several titles, including War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, Aether Gazer, and Snowbreak: Containment Zone, have implemented similar changes, citing factors such as resource allocation and player language preferences.

Square Enix's War of the Visions phased out English dubbing for new content in May 2024, prioritizing Japanese. Aether Gazer, citing financial challenges, removed English voice acting entirely in February 2024. Snowbreak: Containment Zone also dropped English voice-overs in December 2023, focusing on optimizing the player experience.

The trend suggests a prioritization of either the dominant player language or efficient resource management. Maintaining English voice acting across years of content is costly. By reallocating resources, developers aim to ensure long-term game health and focus on features players value most.
