"Oblivion Remastered Retains Iconic Line Flub"

May 22,25(11 months ago)

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered brings a fresh take on one of Bethesda's landmark titles, enhancing it with updated visuals, new gameplay mechanics, and more. Despite these modernizations, the team at Virtuos has delightfully preserved one of the original game's most cherished moments: a memorable voice acting blooper.

Veteran fans of the Elder Scrolls series will fondly recall Master Speechcraft trainer Tandilwe, a High Elf located in the Temple of the One within the Imperial City. When Oblivion first hit the shelves for PC and Xbox 360 over 19 years ago, Tandilwe's dialogue became infamous for a particular voice line. This line, delivered by actress Linda Kenyon, was a flubbed take that somehow made it into the final game. The unexpected inclusion of this blooper has since become a beloved quirk among fans.

As players embarked on their journey through a revitalized Cyrodiil upon the game's release yesterday, many were eager to discover how faithful the remaster would be to the original. While the environments, character models, and items have been significantly updated, fans have been thrilled to find that many of the original game's quirks and imperfections remain. Tandilwe's hilarious blooper is one such cherished element that has made a triumphant return, complete with its original lack of subtitles.

In a 2019 interview with YouTube channel Jake 'The Voice' Parr, Linda Kenyon herself addressed the infamous blooper, humorously claiming, "It wasn't my fault!"

While the community debates whether the Bethesda re-release leans more towards a remake than a remaster, many are simply pleased to see that much of the original game's charm and imperfections have been preserved. Both Bethesda and Virtuos were committed to maintaining these elements, a decision that appears to resonate well with both new and returning players.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered surprised fans with its launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X | S yesterday.
