Battlefield Studios, in collaboration with Electronics Art (EA), has introduced an innovative platform called Battlefield Labs, designed to foster a closer relationship between the gaming community and developers. Announced on February 3, 2025, this initiative aims to involve players directly in the development process of future Battlefield games, allowing them to test and provide feedback on game concepts, mechanics, and features.

The upcoming Battlefield game is entering a crucial development phase, and Battlefield Studios believes that community collaboration will be instrumental in shaping its final form. Players from Europe and North America are invited to participate in the first phase of Battlefield Labs, with sign-ups available now at this link. Although an exact release date hasn't been set, the anticipation is high.

Vince Zampella, Head of Respawn & Group GM for EA Studios Organization, emphasized the potential of the game and the importance of this pre-alpha testing phase. "Battlefield Labs empowers our teams to test the experiences we've been building for our upcoming launch," he stated. Even those not selected for the testing phase will stay informed through regular updates from the development team.

Battlefield Studios comprises several renowned studios, including DICE, the creators of the Battlefield franchise; Ripple Effect, led by franchise veterans; Motive, known for Star Wars Squadrons and Dead Space; and Criterion, famous for their racing games and contributions to Battlefield.

Features and Mechanics to Test in Battlefield Labs

Participants in Battlefield Labs will have the opportunity to test various aspects of the game, though not the entire product. The studio plans to start with the core elements of gameplay, such as combat and destruction mechanics. Subsequent phases will focus on balancing and refining weapons, vehicles, and gadgets, culminating in testing how these elements integrate within maps, modes, and squad play.

Two existing modes, Conquest and Breakthrough, will be part of the testing. In Conquest, players engage in large-scale battles to capture Control Points (flags), with the objective of depleting the opposing team's tickets. Breakthrough mode pits attackers against defenders, with the former attempting to capture sectors while the latter tries to prevent this. Both modes use a ticket system, with unique mechanics for restoring tickets in Breakthrough.

Additionally, Battlefield Studios is keen on refining the class system of future Battlefield games. While proud of their current progress, they value player feedback highly. "We tirelessly playtest, but your feedback will supercharge our development as we strive to hit that perfect note between form, function, and feel," the team stated.
