As Hirabayashi explained, "We needed key people aligned" - and now with Kamiya and Machine Head Works onboard, development is finally proceeding.

This isn't a reboot or reimagining - Kamiya and Hirabayashi confirmed the sequel directly continues the original game's story. While remaining spoiler-free, they noted the first game's conclusion left ample narrative space to explore.
