Killzone Composer: Fans Crave Casual, Quick Gaming Experience
Sony’s *Killzone* franchise has remained on the sidelines for quite some time now. However, in a recent interview with VideoGamer for the PlayStation: The Concert Tour, acclaimed *Killzone* composer Joris de Man added his voice to the growing list of fans and creators who hope to see the series make a return.
During the conversation, de Man expressed personal interest in seeing past *Killzone* titles re-emerge, acknowledging that there have been fan-driven petitions pushing for a revival.
“I can’t speak for Guerrilla or anything... I don't know if it will ever happen,” de Man stated. “I hope it will because I think it is quite an iconic franchise, but I also think it has to consider the sensitivities and the shift in what players are looking for today — it is quite bleak in some ways.”
Could a Remaster Be the Way Forward?
When it comes to how *Killzone* could potentially return, de Man suggested that a remastered collection might be more viable than a completely new entry in the series.
“I think a remastered one would be successful — I don't know if a new game would be as much,” he explained. “Sometimes I get the sense that people want something a bit more casual, a bit quicker.”
This sentiment reflects the evolving preferences of modern gamers, especially when compared to the slower, heavier gameplay style of earlier *Killzone* titles. Notably, *Killzone 2* was criticized for its perceived input lag on PlayStation 3, which affected responsiveness and made the experience feel less fluid.
From a visual and thematic standpoint, the *Killzone* games were known for their dark, gritty, and often oppressive tone — a stark contrast to the fast-paced, colorful intensity of franchises like *Call of Duty*. The atmosphere was intentionally immersive, though not always accessible to casual audiences.
Guerrilla Looks Ahead
In a separate interview with the Washington Post, it became evident that Guerrilla Games — the studio behind *Killzone* — has largely moved forward creatively, focusing its efforts on the *Horizon* series. That said, it has been over a decade since the release of *Killzone: Shadow Fall*, and nostalgia for the franchise remains strong among certain fans.
Whether Sony chooses to revive *Killzone* or one of its other dormant PlayStation-exclusive shooter properties, the idea continues to excite a dedicated group of supporters. For now, hopeful fans can take comfort in knowing they’ve gained another ally in Joris de Man.
