Today, January 30, marks the much-anticipated PC release of Sony's Marvel's Spider-Man 2, a game that has been eagerly awaited by fans since its console debut. The transition to PC has been a topic of interest, especially regarding how well the game would perform across various hardware setups. Now, we have the details straight from the source.

On the PlayStation Blog, Nixxes Software, the developers behind the port, have detailed the PC-specific features designed to optimize performance and visual fidelity across a wide array of hardware configurations. Alongside a new trailer, it's confirmed that the PC version of Spider-Man 2 does away with the mandatory PSN requirement, enhancing accessibility for PC gamers. Moreover, the port introduces advanced raytracing features, including DLSS 3.5 Ray Reconstruction, which promises to enhance the visual experience significantly.

Menno Bil, a graphics programmer at Nixxes, elaborated on the benefits of ray reconstruction in the game: "In Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 on PC with ray reconstruction enabled, we see more detailed ray-traced reflections and better-defined ray-traced shadows, especially when viewing raytracing effects at steep angles. We also see improvements in the ray-traced interiors and less ghosting and noise in the ray-traced ambient occlusion."

In addition to raytracing enhancements, the game supports DLSS 3 and FSR 3.1 for upscaling and frame generation, with Intel’s XeSS upscaler also available. While DLSS 4’s Multi Frame Generation isn't supported by default, users can potentially leverage the Nvidia app to upgrade to the newer model for improved image quality in DLSS 3’s Frame Generation.

For those with wider screens, the game supports ultrawide resolutions up to an impressive 48:9 aspect ratio, with cinematics fully viewable up to 32:9.

The system requirements are thoughtfully categorized into ray-traced and non-ray-traced configurations. For players not focused on the latest graphical bells and whistles, the game can run at 720p and 30 FPS on older systems with components like an Nvidia GTX 1650, an Intel Core i3 8100, and 16 GB of RAM.

On the other end of the spectrum, those with high-end rigs can push the game to its limits, with the "Ray Tracing Ultimate" setting at 4K and 60 FPS requiring an RTX 4090, an AMD Ryzen 7800X3D, and 32 GB of RAM.

As for playing on a Steam Deck, the high RAM and modern GPU requirements might pose a challenge, suggesting that while it's not impossible, Steam Deck verification might be out of reach. This is in contrast to the more scalable PS4 ports of Spider-Man and Spider-Man: Miles Morales, given Spider-Man 2's origins as a PS5 exclusive.
